Collapsible Camper Shoes

Elite luxury leather goods company Delvaux created collapsible leather shoes for camping. Worst design ever. The only collapsible part of the shoe is the heel. Why would anyone want a camping shoe with a white sole? Camping is dirty. Who wants a tope camping shoe? Camping is dirty! And who buys $1200 shoes just to sit in the dirt and smores with? This is a horrible idea with an unrealistic and un relatable design.

The iPod and the Bathtub

HELLO HELLO!!! hahahaah they look so similar don’t they?

Consciously or unconsciously, the iPod materials reference a convention of “cleanliness” that everybody interacts with every day – the bathroom.

SIMPLE, CLEAN, WHITE, MINIMALIST DESIGN, & YOU INTERACT WITH IT DAILY; (WELL I HOPE).

Its amazing how some designers can get their most creative ideas from the bathroom.

Wounded

Author and TEDGlobal attendee Andreas Salcher talks about why early childhood scars break some people and motivate others to do exceptional things.

“In your book The Wounded Man you describe how an accumulation of the “many little hurts” from childhood can lead to severe psychic wounds. You argue that some people can turn these wounds into success while others are broken by them. What is it that distinguishes the “successful” from the “unsuccessful” among those who’ve been hurt?”

My opinion:

Wounds that turn into success- Everything is solely psychological. Everything we do, we take action, its a responsibility. We are simply influenced by those around us. If you have optimistic people around you, then everything you do will be positive, wounds = success.

Success is defined as having a positive outcome; something favorable.

if not….

Wounds that turn break people- You have negative thoughts, and negative people around you, you are convinced that your world is doomed. This is the scenario where wounds = self destruction.

Unsuccessful- not achieving success.

I’ve experienced this type of psychological behavior, and I’ve studied philosophy too, a person has to reason with their inner mind, they have to meditate.

Immediately after seeing this picture, it set an emotion through me, I had to take a double look because its not what you usually see, especially on a blog site. This recession has effected millions of people. It’s true, we need to change. “If the past year has proved anything about business, it’s that traditional corporations focused solely on profit and isolated invention will fail. It’s time a social movement for change focused its efforts on business by demanding that they look beyond products and services by adding value to the communities that need it most. A new generation of entrepreneurs is stepping in to demand that businesses use the most innovative and creative solutions to make a meaningful impact for social change.”

Chewable Jewelry

Doesn’t it look delicious? I thought this design was great, it looks like something I would wear. It is simple, different, and bold, and its something you could wear everyday. Ironic because its almost parallel to something one would use everyday, a pen. Its name is “Chewed by Tuesday”. A necklace like this can cost you $250. It is made of sterling silver and replicates the bic penlid. Each piece is handmade and individually numbered with a signed authetication from the designer.

Bike Racks

Esteemed artist David Byrne has teamed up with the New York City Department of Sanitation to design and construct new bike rack installations in Brooklyn and Manhattan to aid in the city growing bike rider population. Instead of simply creating a line of bike racks that allow adequate space for padlocks and side seats, Byrne created Bike Posts that represented the locations they were positioned in. For example in the Ladies Mile the bike rack is in the shape of a high heel, and a dollar sign down on Wall Street. They’ve become installation pieces rather than bike racks; and have yet to be used for their actual purpose.

Estense Cabinet by Michele De Lucchi

This “Estense” cabinet by architect Michele De Lucchi caught my eye because when closed it seems incredibly compartmentalized with little space for larger objects as the boxes decrease in size the further up the structure you go. Another aspect that interested me about the design was how it doesn’t look like there are doors to open the cabinet, and the doors that the cabinet does have, are all on adjacent sides of the structure. It made me wonder about the popularity of the design and whether or not he sold enough of the cabinets to make a profit because the only way for the design to be fully functional would be to place it in the middle of a room.

The new Hermes folding travel belt collapses so that it can conveniently fit into any pocket, simplifying your packing process. The design is interesting because I guess its more convenient for frequent travelers, but at the same time its not really necessary because belts don’t take up that much space anyway. The silver studs add a nice stylish touch not seen in earlier designs of Hermes belts. The only improvement I would make is to produce the design in colors other than black, and create the belt for narrower waists to incorporate women as well.

First Hotel to Offer iPads in Rooms Charges $3,000 a Night

Because the Ipad doesn’t hit the UK till next month, London’s Berekley Hotel chain has agreed to offer the item in its luxury suites as a way for the elite to get a sneak peak at the product before its official national release. This is a great way to sell out rooms in their hotel even at $3000 a night, though the most extreme of Apple followers in the UK probably how already found a way to get their hands on the new Ipad sans the expensive hotel stay. But I still feel as though the Ipad will give many an excuse to spend an exorbitant amount of money on a room that they normally wouldn’t choose to afford.

AREAWARE Wood Torch

Design house Areaware has reshaped the design of the flashlight into a wooden model. The wooden flashlight, or “torch”, is a part of their wooden line of products that are supposed to become more beautiful as they age. The flashlight being constructed of wood naturally makes it heavier and more noticeable, which supposedly is supposed to encourage you to incorporate its use into your life more often. I found this design concept interesting because I’m not sure of how effective it will be, because honestly I don’t know anyone who regularly needs the aid of a flashlight, let alone a $60 wooden one. Even so, the design intrigues me.
